Dave Sedlak E-mail
Renaissance is very pleased to welcome Dave to the staff!

Dave has an extensive music background. A graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School (with multiple music awards), he holds a Music Education degree from West Chester University (1998). Dave was a music teacher in the York Deanery from 1998-2002, serving as the band director at York Catholic High School from 2000-2002. While there, the band came in an impressive 3rd place in the 2000 Cavalcade of Bands Championships. The indoor percussion won the KIDA Championships for their division in 2001 and placed second in CIDA the same year. Dave was also the marching band director at Phoenixville High School from 1996-1997 and a marching tech in 1995. He was also a marching tech at with the West Chester University Marching Band in 1995. Dave still has a valid PA teaching license.

Dave is an alumni of the Reading Buccaneers. He marched from 1995-1997 and also 1999. He was a baritone section leader and a horn tech.

Dave holds a J.D from Penn State University (2005) and is an investment attorney for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Chalet Harris E-mail

Chalet Harris - Director

Chalet is the director of Renaissance Foundation for the Performing Arts, Inc. and a founding member of the Board of Directors. She will also serve as the Director of Renaissance Drum and Bugle Corps and Renaissance Indoor Percussion.

Chalet has returned to school to complete a degree in Recreation & Leisure Administration. In addition to being heavily involved in the marching activity, Chalet is a classically trained Soprano. She has performed throughout Europe and Russia. She has sung with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society's Symphonic Chorus - a group that frequently contributes with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. Chalet is the Director of the Music Academy Experimental Movement Concepts (EMC) in New Freedom, PA. She teaches private lessons in voice and oboe. She is also in charge of the vocal element of musical theatre.

She was a member of the Reading Buccaneers horn line in 1995, 1997 & 1998 playing both soprano and mellophone. She also marched with her college band (Shepherd College, WV) and high school band (Dover Area HS, PA).

Chalet began teaching high school marching band in 1995. She has worked with Long Reach (Columbia, MD), Susquehannock (Glen Rock, PA), Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA) and Middletown (PA) as a member of the visual staff. Chalet was on the visual staff of the New York Skyliners in 2003. She also has been assisting with instruction with Renaissance.

Brian Harris E-mail

Brian Harris - Program Coordinator/ Battery Arranger/ Perc Caption Head

Brian is a founding member of the Board of Directors and serves as the Director of all things percussion with Renaissance. Brian returns to the position of Battery Arranger/ Caption Head in 2006. He will also be the Program Coordinator.

Brian's marching experience began with the Toppers Drum and Baton Corps of Baltimore in 1981. He won a National Championship with them when he was only 9. His drum corps career began in 1989 when he marched with the Reading Buccaneers. He stayed with them until 1995 and then returned for the 1997 & 1998 seasons, winning high percussion in the 1998 season. He also marched with Lads and Lassies and Maryland Brigade drum and baton corps in the 80s.

Brian began teaching high school marching band in 1993. He is currently the Percussion Instructor at Susquehannock HS (Glen Rock, PA). He has also worked with Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA - 2005 High Percussion Cavalcade American Open), Allegany HS (Cumberland, MD), Long Reach HS (Columbia, MD), Fort Hill HS (Cumberland, MD), Westmar HS (MD), Walkersville HS (Walkersville, MD), Middletown HS (Middletown, PA).

Brian was a member of the New York Skyliners percussion staff in 2003 and 2004. Brian has also been an instructor with Tectonics Percussion and Visual Ensemble.

Brian works for Travelers Insurance Company in their Hunt Valley Subrogation office.

Ken Smith - Lead Percussion Tech

Ken Smith will be the Battery instructor with Renaissance Drum and Bugle Corps this year. Ken has been on staff with Renaissance since its inception in 2002 with credits including teaching the pit, arranging for the pit and instructing the battery.

Ken marched with the Reading Buccaneers in 2000, winning the High Percussion title. He also marched with his high school band (Bermudian Springs, PA) and with Renaissance. While in high school, Ken held second chair in district band in 1992. He is also a former member of the Adams County Band (1992-1995), the Lebanon Valley College Honors Band (1993-1995) and the PA State Lions Club Band (1994). He won the John Phillip Sousa Band Award in 1995.

His teaching career includes Bermudian Springs HS from 1999 to 2001 where he served as Caption Head and as the Battery Arranger in 2001. He also taught Shikellemy HS in 2001. And, as mentioned, he taught Renaissance in 2002/03 and 2003/04.

Ken is a veteran of the US Army. He spent 18 months in Korea in the mid-90s. He works for Yes Solutions (formerly Bookspan) in Hanover, PA. Ken is also a member of Renaissance Foundation for the Performing Arts, Inc.'s board of directors!
